Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
